Where did the carving on the trunk come from?

The carving is definitely asian. The person I bought it from said it came from China, although again since this was a craigslist deal, that may or may not be true. It is not particularly heavy, so I do not think mahogany. The inside of the trunk is lined with some sort of lighter unfinished wood, and looks fairly clean and new.

How tall is a trunk of antique furniture?

The trunk is 34.5″x15.5″x15.5″, and I forgot to measure the desk. It is probably about 48″ tall though. But removing the dust particles with a brush is not a long lasting solution, there is need to clean furniture with some sort of liquid.

What kind of wood is a cherry carving made of?

It does not appear to be cherry as cherry is too soft to endure intricate carving and last a long time. If the object is way heavier than it would appear then most likely it is mahagony. Take note of how the sides and bottom are joined together.
