- Step one – Turn off the electricity to the light. Turn off the light switch and breaker for the light.
- Step Two – Tape off the area.
- Step three – Clean the light fixture before painting.
- Step four – Apply paint.
- Step Five – Reassemble the painted light fixture.
Can ceiling fans be recycled?
Some recycling centers will take the entire fan including the blades, metal blade irons, and remote control batteries. We recommend taking your old ceiling fan to your local recycling center to see what they can recycle from your ceiling fan. Make sure to dispose of light bulbs properly as well.
How do you remove an old flush mount ceiling light?

- Locate the ornamental finial (round thingy – bolt) in the bottom of the light.
- Hold the glass part of the light with one hand.
- Turn the finial (round thingy – bolt) counter-clockwise to loosen it.
- When it is completely loose, carefully lower the glass part.
